Myanmar confirmed two more Covid-19 deaths on Wednesday, including a township administrator who contracted the disease from his healthcare worker wife.

In total, the country has now recorded three deaths from the coronavirus and 22 cases, with two possible recoveries.

The new deaths were a 47-year-old man, who was the deputy administrator of Paukkhaung township, and a 63-year-old woman from Ayeyarwady region.

The man was married to a healthcare worker at Yangon private clinic International SOS who had tested positive for the virus.

Their eight-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son also contracted the disease.

Health official Khin Khin Gyi wrote on Facebook this morning that the man died from respiratory failure with septicaemia due to the coronavirus. He had diabetes and hypertension, according to news outlet 7Day TV.

The 63-year-old woman, who was also diabetic, had welcomed her son back from Dubai at Yangon airport on March 15 and then developed a fever before going to North Okkalapa hospital a fortnight later.

The patient died of acute myocardial infarction with cardiogenic shock, sepsis, severe pneumonia, and cytokine storm syndrome associated with COVID-19 infection, said Khin Khin Gyi.

Aung San Suu Kyi broke news of her death during a live stream today.

Myanmar reported its first Covid-19 death on March 31, a 69-year-old man who also had cancer and died in a Yangon hospital.
